Out in the Country at Last

We're in Oxford today, but since this is the first internet cafe we've found we're still catching up on photos.

We took the train to Kemble and, with the help of some nice hiking firemen, we found our way to the source of the Thames in a big, wet, muddy field.

This is one of the first of many fences and stiles we've climbed over, and at the source they were very muddy climbing events.

Finally reached the source marked by a stone. We found the infant Thames which bubbles up from a spring in front of this stone.

Begining of the path through the greenest country we've ever seen.

Still near the source, the first of many adorable stone bridges we've crossed.

Everything looks like this here, seriously. This was in the village of Cricklade where we spent our third night.

Bobbie: On one of the first sections of the walk, I fell in a badger hole! Really! This is Mom trying to figure out how to get me out. Not really. She's examining an example of one of the many holes that were inconveniently placed right on our path. I am not embarrassed to admit I fell into such a huge hole, because it was covered in grass, totally camouflaged. We both thought of Alice going down the rabbit hole, and "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" was written not too far down river here in Oxford. Anyway, it was a good early reminder to pick up our feet and watch where we're going. Duh.
